FAQ
What kind of Karate is being taught?
We are a certified school through the World Shito-ryu Karate-do Federation (WSKF) as recognized by the International Olympic Committee and the Japanese government.
Do I need previous experience?
No, this can be for someone without any experience to those with decades of knowledge.
Do I need special equipment?
You will need the appropriate equipment to attend online and video classes via Google Classroom and Google meets. We ask that by your second month you have obtained a traditional white karate gi.
How much space do I need?
Enough space for you to be able to safely swing your arms and legs. If possible, please use a space that allows you to take a step or two in any direction. This could be in a space as small as a closet or as big as a standard Dojo floor.
How long are classes?
The average class for junoirs is 30 minutes and 45 minutes for adult classes.
How is this different from other online courses?
Midwest Shito Kai provides LIVE classes with instant and personal instructor feedback. We are more than simply pre-recorded videos for you to watch that offer no or minimal instructor interaction.
What ages do you instruct?
7 and up
If I have previous rank in a certified WSKF school, what belt would I wear for a Midwest Shito Kai class?
You may wear the belt appropriate to your WSKF rank from your home dojo.
If I have a previous rank in a non-WSKF school what belt would I wear for a Midwest Shito Kai class?
Your first classes you will be asked to wear a white belt with no stripes, as our ranking is for Shito Kai knowledge and studies. Often those coming from other styles can advance quickly through the ranks, sometimes jumping several ranks at a time.
Can I earn a black belt?
Yes, you can but you must test in person under the Karate-do Shito-Kai Murayama USA school in Phoenix, Arizona or at an approved in-person WSKF testing.
Can I earn rank online?
Progression through the curriculum will be awarded with stripes signifying the equivalent knowledge level of the corresponding Shito Kai belt rank at Springfield Karate and Fitness. Belt ranks may be earned through in-person training at Springfield Karate and Fitness.
